Vidya Mahambare is Professor of Economics at Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM), Chennai. has a Masters in International Trade and Finance, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Lancaster Management School. She is a 2020 joint winner of the Emergent Ventures Grant by The Mercatus Centre, George Mason University. Vidya’s research has been published in journals such as Economics Letters, Oxford Economic Papers, World Development, Feminist Economics among others covering a range of topics spanning from monetary policy, household welfare, to gender-related issues. In August 2021, she was appointed as a member of the Expert Committee of the State Planning Commission of Tamil Nadu, set up to draft the state policy on 'Employability and Skilling in Transitioning Economy'. Prior to joining GLIM, Vidya has worked with Cardiff Business School, and was Director and Principal Economist at CRISIL. She writes opinion articles for popular media outlets including Mint and The Print, and her articles have also appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Asia.
