Siddhartha Mitra is currently Professor of Economics at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. In his earlier appointments, he has been Director (Research), CUTS International and a Reader at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune. Prof. Mitra has also taught at the University of Melbourne; and Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi.
His research interests lie in the field of development economics, environmental economics, agricultural economics, political economy and economics of peace. He has been a prolific researcher with around 40 publications in national and international journals (such as Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, American Journal of Agricultural Economics and Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics) and an edited volume to his credit. He has led and contributed to several research projects in the fields of international trade and development, competition and regulation. He has served on consultative committees to the Ministry of Environment, Government of India and also as consultant to the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), New Delhi and Center for Development Research (ZEF), Bonn; conducted courses in Vietnam and Bangladesh; and presented in seminars and conferences in Australia, Europe, United States and Asia.
Prof. Mitra holds a Ph.D. and M.S. degree from the Agricultural and Resource Economics Department of the University of Maryland at College Park, USA and a Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics.
