Zakir Husain is a graduate in economics from Presidency University, Kolkata. He has worked in institutes like Institute of Economic Growth, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, before joining Presidency University as a Professor in economics. He has also served as a Member of State Planning Board, Government of West Bengal, and Senior Consultant, Prime Minister's High Level Committee. His research interests lie in applied econometrics, and he mainly works in areas of human development, and horizontal inequity.
