Avani Kapur, Senior Research and Program Analyst at Accountability Initiative (AI) – a research organisation based in the Centre for Policy Research that works on tracking government planning, budgeting and decision-making systems in key social sector programmes. At AI, Avani is responsible for managing the research work, specifically the public finance and budget work. This includes anchoring the publication of annual budget briefs tracking key social sector schemes, coordinating large-scale expenditure tracking surveys and leading research studies on financing health and education. Avani's interest lies in building evidence for policy advocacy for improving transparency and accountability in public financial management. Prior to AI, Avani worked at the Centre for Development and Human Rights (CDHR), with Dr Arjun Sengupta on issues of extreme poverty and the right to development.
Avani has a Master's degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and a B.A. cum laude from Smith College, Massachusetts.
