Klaus Desmet is Professor of Economics at Universidad Carlos III. His research focuses on regional economics, international trade, economic growth, and diversity. He has held visiting positions at a number of institutions, including the University of Illinois, Stanford University and the Bank of Spain. He is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research. He was educated at the Université Catholique de Louvain (Business Engineering) and at Stanford University (Ph.D. in Economics).
