Emily Rains will begin as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Louisiana State University in August 2021. Her research examines the policy and political implications of urbanisation in developing countries, primarily in India. In particular, she is interested in how residents of urban slums mobilise politically and how this affects neighborhood development outcomes. She completed a dual Ph.D. in Public Policy and Political Science at Duke University in 2021. Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, she worked for two years at IDinsight, based in Bihar.
