Anil Bhargava is a postdoctoral research fellow in the School of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on the economic causes of and pathways out of poverty in low-income countries, as they relate to agriculture, water use, and rural labor. His research is inspired by considerable developing country NGO and graduate experience in developing areas of South Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In August 2014, he completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Davis, with fields in development, natural resources, and econometrics. His dissertation received the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award from the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA). He received his M.A. in economics from the University of Hawai’i in 2009 and his B.A. in political economy from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003.
