Abhilasha Sahay is an Economist at the Gender Group at the World Bank where she serves as the thematic leader on adolescent girls’ empowerment and women’s economic inclusion. She also serves as the gender regional liaison for Africa. A development economist by training, Abhilasha’s research interests lie at the intersection of gender, crime, and household economics. In her current role, she manages projects aimed at generating evidence - on what works to close gender gaps in skills, employment, and education - to meaningfully inform programs and policy. Previously, she has worked at the Africa and East Asia and Pacific Gender Innovation Labs (World Bank) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Government of India).
She received her Ph.D. in Economics from the George Washington University and Master’s in economics from the London School of Economics. Abhilasha is the recipient of the Mariam K. Chamberlain Award, conferred by the International Center of Research on Women and the Women's Rights and Gender Equality Award, conferred by the Global Women's Institute.
