Paula von Haaren is a Research Associate and is pursuing her Ph.D. in Development Economics at the South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University. She has a Masters in Development Economics from Göttingen University and has a Bachelors in Economics from the University of Heidelberg. She has worked as a Research Assistant for the Courant Research Center for Poverty, Inequality and Growth, and has had internships and research stays at the German Development Bank (KfW), the United Nations Research Institute for Justice and Crime (UNICRI), the International Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar and for the purpose of large-scale household-level data collection for her research in Bihar, India. Her research focusses on understanding poverty and inequality and their connection to female empowerment, health, and social capital; and the evaluation of welfare policies aiming to improve the lives of the poor.
