I think the Planning Commission in its present form, should be dismantled. But someone has to do planning. This is the link to the first part of two blogs on the Planning Commission. In this one, I argue that the Planning Commission could become the secretariat for the inter-state commission, which is a constitutional body that can easily perform as a consultative planning body ideal for India's federal structure.

Sir, What´s in a name! If we ´ve to replace the Planning commission by any other institution it is better to keep the name so far it has an historical past in the Indian Economy. But if the govt wants to remove the dichotomy over Indian economy it doesn´t need any more institution. We should accept that our our law makers in centre & state are able to direct our economic development.-manomohan, west bengal
